The Ask: Target wanted both the registrant and the gift giver of a baby or wedding registry to effortlessly create, find, and manage a gift registry.
The Answer:
A native iOS app was designed where customers can shop and manage their registry at a kiosk, as well as scan items within the aisles of the store. Responsible for detailed wireframes, annotations, functional specifications, site map, paper and interactive prototypes within a team.

The Ask: With the SEC legislating brand new regulations for investment crowdfunding in 2013, CrowdCheck needed to be ready, right out the gate, with a strong online presence.
The Answer:
As one of two UX Designers for this project, I created a meaningful and engaging experience, both for entrepreneurs, investors, and portals. Some aspects included: content inventory+audit, user+stakeholder interviews, personas, ideation, site maps, lots of wireframes, as well as copywriting and QA. Our software development utilized Agile methodologies, including: sprints, stories, scrum meetings, kanban, point scoring, and more within a team.

The Ask: Medtronic had a very institutional website that needed a facelift and needed to be responsive for their doctors and practitioners to enjoy using.
The Answer: Leveraging emotional design, the redesign resulted in a beautiful site with a warm look and feel that focuses not only on a medical product that saves lives, but also on the human aspect: empowered patients that can continue their quality of life. With a fully responsive site, busy doctors and practitioners can view the site on their phone, tablet, or desktop. The Ask: MGM Resorts wanted to redesign their web properties, and make them responsive.
The Answer:
Leveraging emotional design, the redesign entices users to take full advantage of all the fun and entertainment the resort has to offer. With a fully responsive site, improved IA, and a killer look, guests can use their mobile device as they stroll The Strip to book a room, see who's performing tonight, purchase tickets to a show, make dinner reservations, and more! Components can be reused throughout the site, and the templated site can be used across properties--from Vegas to China. As part of the UX team, I was responsible for wireframes, annotations, functional specifications, design flows, site maps, and more.

The Ask: SapientNitro wanted a cutting edge responsive website that shows off its work and talent, and sets it apart from other advertising agencies.
The Answer:
The UX for this site was challenging but in the end proved to
be worth all the blood, sweat, and tears for a truly revolutionary website that looks great on desktop/tablet/mobile. Utilizing horizontal and vertical swiping, the site encourages the user to explore SapientNitro's work and talent, inline with it's

The Ask: UMG needed a web app to replace its legacy (PowerBuilder) application
Global Repertoire Management System, which was difficult to update and distribute internationally.
The Answer: Along with a small team, I designed and implemented the UX and UI of a new product. Employing heavy use of AJAX,
R2 is a modern transformation that is distributed over an intranet. Streamlining business processes, R2 allows UMG to become the market leader in the evolution of digital releases, while keeping
pace with the growth in volume of digital product sales.
I created business requirements docs, functional specification docs, wireframes, UI, style guides, lo-fi and hi-fi prototypes (the client was accustomed to
hi-fi prototypes and design flows, on a short turnaround, where the look and feel was fully realized). Design patterns include: trees, tabs, combobox, modal windows, balloons, grids, pagination, quick search, and more.

The Ask: Media Portal was getting bogged down with work and needed some processes--such as creating a release--streamlined.
The Answer:
I designed several wizard-type applications, allowing the business to quickly and efficiently create releases--adding tracks, artwork, metadata, and more. I created all the initial concepts, from brainstorming to process flows, to wireframes, to interactive prototypes.

As the Web
Producer of this fun and interactive web site for kids, parents, and
teachers, I created and maintained hundreds of multimedia applications
using Flash, Shockwave, HTML, CSS, Javascript, video, and
QuickTime VR. In addition to the website, many mobile and kiosk applications were also created for use in and out of the garden. The website has received many rave reviews, especially
for the
Kids'
Tour. I was interviewed and quoted for an article in the
Lansing State Journal and a similar article on Apple.com (
screenshot). Some of the multimedia applications have been sold on CD, and and also made available in multiple languages.

As the Web Manager of the College of Communication Arts & Sciences at Michigan
State University, I was responsible for managing six large and dynamic
websites, and about 60 microsites. Utilizing PHP and mySQL, these
sites are updated daily with fresh content. I hired and supervised
the developers, programmers, and artists that work on the sites. I also completely revamped the backend to improve reliability and ease of content
updates (using CMS), as well as the front end (CSS,
DHTML, XHTML) for a fresh, standards compliant, user-friendly UI.

As lead web designer, I
worked closely with the project director, visual designer, and stakeholders (DPIC: Death Penalty Information Center) to create a multiple
award-winning website providing a high quality curriculum for high school
students. In addition to a student site, we created a "teacher's
edition" companion site. Both sites are quite large, each comprised
of over 500 files. Site includes interactive Flash maps and printable
PDFs. Also
available for the iPad.

Wonderwalls
connect students in an online or in-person class in real time and asynchronously

The Michigan
Master Gardener program needed an integrated system that could track
thousands of members' credit hours and program progress in all Michigan
counties. Working in a small team, I managed the project from concept
to integration to maintenance, defining requirements, specifying solutions,
schedules, budgets, meetings, change requests, bug-tracking, deadlines,
scope, resource hours, and deliverables. The system utilizes PHP, MySQL,
CSS, and HTML, and generate reports in HTML, PDF, and Excel. It is currently
used by all 83 county offices.
As the lead
instructor for several upper-level classes at Michigan State University,
I developed curricula and course websites for online learning. All topics
pertained to technology with a focus on new media design (HTML, CSS,
JavaScript, ActionScript, Director, database integration, e-commerce,
and more).

As producer
of Three
Way Monte, an experiment in interactive filmmaking, I had the very
unique opportunity to do something that has never been done before. Working
in a small, intensely-motivated team, I was able to contribute to the
project from start to finish. This project demanded me to assume several
roles: Producer, DVD Author, Website Designer, PR, Photographer, Videographer,
and even Grip at times. Working without any budget and "bleeding
edge" technology, the production was a huge endeavor. In the end
however, it was worth all the hard work.

The Michigan
Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) approached the Telecommunication
Department at MSU to discuss the idea of a live webcast of the MI IT
Summit 2000. I was chosen by the department as part of a small elite
team to make the idea a reality. With only roughly four days to work
with, I assisted the project director in setting up the hardware, configuring
the software, and on April 12, 2000, successfully streaming live video.
I also was the lead web designer, which included pre- post- and on-the-fly
web creation. Video was recompressed and is now archived. The MEDC invited
us back to do the webcast again in 2001.
